Understanding the vision of Faith & Friends
Faith & Friends are 14" playdolls with realistic, poseable bodies, "natural" eyes, darling faces, and mix-and-match wardrobes that are trendy, feminine, and wholesome. But more than that, these delightful dolls inspire a young girl to express her creativity and imagination!
Name your doll: Girls get to name each doll themselves! They can learn the meaning and importance of names, and how a name becomes part of one's identity.
Write her story: Girls get to write each doll's story! As they dream up her personality and adventures, girls can design "best friends" to share their own life journey.
Create her style: Girls get to create each doll's fashion style! By mixing and matching wardrobe items to create many different looks, girls can experiment with setting their own trends.
Collect the books: Girls get to collect books that will inspire them! Each novel presents a challenge girls will relate to, as well as a helpful life lesson.
Why Fashion Dolls?
Please visit our Faith and Friends web site at http://faithandfriends.com/whyfashiondolls.htm for additional information on “Why Fashion Dolls”.
What is the doll’s hair made of and can it be brushed, washed, and styled?
Your doll’s hair is made of kanekalon, the same fiber used for the most expensive wigs designed for people. You can brush and style the hair easily. Gently brush one small section at a time. Use only a wire wig brush that has not been used on human hair (human hair has oils that can damage your doll’s hair.) Start at the very end of a small section of hair and remove the tangles as you work up the section – just like you do with your own hair. When you have removed all the tangles, brush all the way through the section of hair before starting over on the next section. Be careful not to leave any hair in the brush; be careful not to mix hair from one section with another. It is normal for some hair to be pulled out as you brush, just as your own hair pulls out when you brush it. Severe tangles may be released by spraying a fine mist of water mixed with a dab of good quality cream rinse or conditioner designed for wigs. The hair may be lightly sprayed with hair spray to keep it in place. You can wash the hair by using a small amount of gentle shampoo, applying a cream rinse or conditioner, and brushing out the tangles as described above. Let the hair air-dry. Never bathe your doll with you; the oil from your body and hair can damage your doll’s hair. Never use a curling iron, hot rollers or a hair dryer on your doll. Never leave your doll in a hot car. HEAT WILL PERMANENTLY DAMAGE HER LOVELY HAIR. Remember to treat your doll with the gentleness with which you like to be treated!
What is the doll’s body made of?
The doll’s body is made of the finest available, soft-touch, rotationally-molded vinyl. It is ball-jointed and strung with durable elastic cord. This allows the doll to be posed in many positions. She can sit, stand, put her hands together in prayer, and tilt her head to smile at you or look up to heaven!
Can the doll be washed?
All parts of the doll’s body are surface washable using gentle soap and water. We do not recommend putting the doll in the washing machine; hand washing is preferable.
Can the doll’s clothing be washed?
The clothing is dry cleanable or may be washed by hand. Use a cold water detergent and rinse thoroughly. While the clothing can be machine washed, we do not recommend it.
Note re-Recall of Toys Made in China:
Mission City Press Faith & Friends dolls are manufactured in China at a top quality manufacturing facility which we have personally visited on multiple occasions. Child safety is very important to us. Faith & Friends dolls have been tested by a leading independent lab and certified as compliant with toy safety standards established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. These detailed standards cover lead content, flammability, durability, toxicity, and more. Faith & Friends dolls meet the requirements in all those areas. Mission City Press is known for the extremely high quality of its products and attention to detail and we will continue to monitor these issues. Faith & Friends dolls are a great alternative to other doll products on the market not just because they are safe, but also because they are wholesome and inspirational. Protecting a child's heart and soul is as important as protecting her body.
Why are your dolls manufactured in China?
Companies in the United States are no longer able to manufacture vinyl dolls at a reasonable cost. We could not even find a U.S. manufacturer that was willing and able to do our production given our desire to price the dolls at a reasonable retail level. Since U.S. manufacturing was not a viable option, we searched for companies outside the U.S. that we could trust to create our products to our high quality standards.
We share the concerns of many people about manufacturing in China, so it was only after a great deal of prayer and very careful investigation that we chose to manufacture in China. We believe that God led us to the Chinese company that is doing our doll manufacturing. We have traveled to China to meet with the owners. We talked with them and with many of their managers and factory workers. We toured the entire manufacturing plant. It was clean, bright, and comfortable—the atmosphere was much nicer than many factories in the U.S.
We also toured the associated facilities, including the dormitories/apartments where employees may live (at their option and at no charge), plus the kitchen, the dining rooms, the recreation rooms (which had game tables, game boards, big screen movies, and other fun activities), as well as the medical clinic. Free room and board and free medical care is provided for employees. Employees at the factory work 48 hours per week and there are no children working there. This factory meets international manufacturing and labor standards. By Chinese standards, the pay scale at this factory is higher than most so many people seek to work there. They have a week of vacation six times a year, and three weeks off in a row during Chinese New Year, when the entire nation goes home for the holidays and the factory is closed. The owners of this factory went to university in the U.S. and take great pride in their employees, the excellent craftsmanship of their products, and in their work environment.
One of the key managers we met who is employed by the factory as a production supervisor is a Chinese Christian. She says that she practices her Christianity daily within the manufacturing plant, with the blessing of the owners. (She has even read our A Life of Faith novels!) There are also other Christians working in this factory.
